A Tribute to Health Packs
By: Nikhil Singh   |   Apr 08, 2008

To take it to the next level, games like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare completely eliminated the use of health packs. Once you got shot you’d simply have to take cover for a few seconds, and you’d be completely healed. Now I’m not complaining – CoD4 ranks among my favorite games – it’s just sad when to see a major part of gaming get phased out and die.

On the bright side, health packs have paved the path for a more evolved healing system in games today. Look at the complex and effective healing system in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, for instance. You can stop bleeding using bandages, heal using food, and cure radiation using medication. Or check out the upcoming FarCry 2, which actually requires you to dig out bullets from your body before you can heal.

None of the above would have been possible if it weren't for health packs; so before I end this article, I’d like all of you to spare a thought for all those poor pixelated hearts and red crosses that lost their lives so that you could heal yourself in modern games.

It IS sad to see them go away :( A dimension of Gameplay has disappeared, we no longer need to save potions or stock up things for them .And because of that, even health Bars are disappearing,Screen = Red, then Run and Hide, also in games like in Fight Night R3, we have to look at the face and find out!

But I think this is only in the case of FPSes because almost everything else still has the concept of HitPoints and calculated attacks, so as long as they are there, Health Incrementing things also will exist :D

btw weren't health packs removed from CoD2 onwards itself?

Also MGS3 has the removing bullets to heal thing too :P

But ,I don't think EVERYTHING should have some developers opinion.

Nikhil, nice style of writing but the article could have been way better. This currently only reflects *your* style of playing. Shall I give you a hint? Talk to people. Try to get in touch with the developers of the games you liked, to get their perspective at that time. It's called research.

I must tell this one:

i dont know How much popular this one is but I really remember it.
Harry potter series of Games by EA, had some Potion (green coloured liquid in a round bottom flask type container), which could be made by mixing one portion of wigentree bark & one portion of a flubber type material. Then one had to go near to a 'witchy' type BIG vessel with fumes. Prepare a Bottle of that potion & keep with self for future use. One bottle used to give One full recharge of that SPARK like indicator POwer .

Not much popular game but i just Loved it, simply for its magical essence & fansaty Feel !!!
