Gaming Annoyances 101: The Human Factor

Whiners

These are by far the most annoying creatures you can come up against while playing online. Just like how a bad carpenter complains about his tools, these whiners will always come up with ten thousand excuses like "Oh, my mouse just skipped", or "Duuuuude I ran of out ammo" etc. Once again, I’d like to elaborate on this rant with an example. During one Deathmatch in Rainbow Six Vegas I was perched in one of the rooms above (hey, I don’t camp all the time okay?) when I come across this dude wandering about in the courtyard below. So I take aim and pop him one in the head

Instead of acknowledging my l33t skillz he starts whining like a bitch about how he was on a call and that I shouldn’t have killed him. For starters, I’m not psychic so I didn’t know that and secondly, if he was on the other side of the gun, would he have hesitated? I think not. The bottomline is that if you’re on a call, put the controller down or enter spectator mode but don’t roam around the map and whine if you end up taking a bullet.

Another thing that struck me as weird was the way people cry if you chainsaw them in Gears of War. WTF is that all about?! Isn’t it equivalent to a knife kill or any form of melee attack, and you obviously weren’t fast enough to evade this up close and personal attack, so why bitch and gripe and call the opponent a n00b for using the game’s mechanic?

Then there’s the rigid variety of whiners who just aren’t willing to try out new maps (or new games, for that matter) but what they will do is suck the life out of a map/game they’ve become good in. A couple of years ago I used to visit cyber cafes frequently and most of the time you’d have people playing Counter Strike or Warcraft 3: TFT (since DoTA wasn’t out by then), and every time me or my friends tried playing a new game like UT or CoD we were constantly assaulted by a constant barrage of "Let’s just play CS yaar" or "Dude this game sucks; I don’t know what to do". So then take the time out to learn the f***ing game instead of whining.

I could go and on about these whiners but I’d rather stop since I find myself drifting towards that very same category. Nikhil too has his share of annoyances he’d like to share with you next week, but in the meantime if you have anything you’d like to rant about, feel free to drop a comment below.

actually when teammates don't cooperate..i get really angry...i try to take their attention by using the teammate shouts..like "regroup team" and all other stuff..even then their are people who really don't know how to play in a team...this really is very bad gaming by those....i request everyone to be not a hinderance to the team, but to support u r team...

i totally agree on ur whiner front bcuz these are the sorta people i have faced a lotta times. excuses for getting killed & playing one map/game till every pixel is remembered. these people ( i dont call them gamers as they are afraid to try a new game ) can endlessly play and brag abt each and every kill or fluke they have made. i say just shut up and play.

I'd like to add another rant -
some cafes here don't have ideal setups. What I'm saying is the opponent sits right behind you while gaming. What this does is they tend to turn back, look at my monitor, find out where I'm camping, and kill me.. Sheesh!

@Sphinx - the most annoying part is that the guy hosting the server doesn't even have half the brains to turn of any kinds of spectate modes.

So true!!!.....the thing i hate the most is when you are at the local gaming saloon and while playing C.S (or any other game for that matter)....players after dieing start yelling locations of other players on the map to their teammates!!!...it's kinda annoying!!
Sphinx @ Feb 02, 2008
one of the best and freakingly true article....

I have one more ranting to do :P
when gaming, its very usual that u will atleast say something like, "dont block my view u sob" or something like that... honesly, 1000s of ppl hav yelled at me as well, and its very usual as i said.
But i have experienced many who seem 2 become life long enemies after hearing such things. Once this one guy, same team, started TKing all u called him names... hehe, thankfully server admin kicked him :D
