During the attack, the last remaining starship called the Pillar of Autumn survives and in a bid to lead their pursuers away from Earth, makes a random jump deep into space. Their bad luck lands them right next to a ring-shaped artificial planet called ‘Halo’, on which they’re forced to crash-land after the starship takes a beating from its pursuers.
Master Chief and his A.I. buddy Cortana (that’s embedded in his armor) discover that the planet is actually a weapon that’ll destroy all sentient life in the galaxy it’s in. Just like Master Chief, the planet has an A.I. called the Oracle or the 343 Guilty Spark looking over it too, but this dude’s a lot more treacherous than Cortana.
In fact, it almost fools Master Chief into activating Halo to destroy another dormant alien life race called the Flood, that devours and converts everything that crosses its path; to his luck, Cortana’s intervention foils 343’s plans and they blow up the weapon-cum-planet to smithereens to ensure that it’s never used again.
Tired and weary, Master Chief returns to Earth where he’s commended for saving the Earth’s backside. Minutes into the ceremony, a fleet of Covenant ships jump into the system and threaten to ruin the party by destroying good ol’ Earth.
The only thing Master Chief hates more than aliens is party-poopers. Pissed with the audacity of those Covenant scumbags, he teams up with the UNSC (United Nation Space Command) to kick their asses once again. The events that transpire force Master Chief and the UNSC into following the cowering Covenant forces to another ring world called Delta Halo.
This planet, as he discovers, is part of a chain of ring-shaped weapons scattered all over the universe, and was made to destroy all ‘lower life’ (that’s what the Covenant calls all life form that doesn’t obey them), including the Flood. The Flood becomes a real pain in the neck for Master Chief and he decides to blow up this ring world too, along with all the alien trash on it.
Before he manages to do so, the High Prophet of Regret (one of the leaders of the Covenant; why can’t they have simpler names?) activates the planet/weapon. Master Chief manages to stop it from going boom, but it puts all other ring worlds in a state of standby, ready to be activated at any minute. Realizing this, Master Chief prepares to destroy the remaining ring worlds and save humanity once again.
Now that the story’s wrapped up, you should have a rough idea of what the franchise is all about. Our next Halo feature will contain all the factions and characters from the Halo franchise, so stay tuned to Tech2.com.
