Tokyo Game Show 2006

No PS3 price drop for America
Most people must have broken into an impromptu jig after Ken Kutaragi’s announcement at the TGS regarding the PS3’s price drop in Japan. I really hate to be the bearer of bad new and cut those celebrations short, but it seems that this price cut will be limited to Japanese territories only, if SCEA president Kaz Hirai is to be believed. But you could take comfort in the fact that even the 20 GB model will come bundled with an HDMI port.

PSP blowout
Determined not to let the PS3 steal all the thunder (although I don’t see how that’s possible) at TGS, Sony decided to 'pimp' their handheld console as well. European territories can look forward to a sparkling new pink colored PSP in October, while the Japanese can look forward to a sleek silver PSP (is it just me or is Europe getting a raw deal?) and other multi colored ones, which by the way are still in the prototype phase as of now.

If that wasn’t enough, Sony also unveiled a new GPS receiver for that PSP and here are the games that’ll take advantage of that receiver:

  • Minna no Golf-jou
  • Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
  • Planetarium Creator Ohira Takayuki Kanshuu: Home Star Portable
  • Navigation Soft

The receiver will cost $51 and will be available in December 2006.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma headed to the PS3

Team Ninja is planning on porting their critically acclaimed platformer, Ninja Gaiden to the PS3, but the glitch here is that it won’t be a new game or a sequel; it’ll be a 'complete version' (whatever that means) of the Xbox Team Ninja title. To make people happy, the developers will throw in a bit of new content like new stages, new enemies, new weapons, new moves and the ability to play as a new character, Rachael. Sad state of affairs.

Well that’s about it for the TGS 2006; stay tuned as and when we bring you the highlights of Microsoft's press conference that's happening in Barcelona; X06.
