Now that Grand Theft Auto IV’s come and gone it’s time to look out for yet another sandbox fix. Keeping your plight in mind we’ve come up with a list of ten games that may quench those free roaming urges.
A standalone prequel to 2007’s most excellent S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl (SoC), Clear Sky will take place before the nuclear disaster that led to the events of SoC and will put players in the boots of a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. called Scar as he tries to unravel the and understand the events that led to this nuclear faux pas in the first place. The game’s engine will undergo a tremendous graphical overhaul to include all the nifty tweaks associated with Directx 10 gaming, and even though it takes place in the same area as SoC, developer Deep Silver promises tons of new locales to explore.
Ditching the tropical setting for a total turnaround in the form of brutal Sudanese conditions, Far Cry 2 will put players in the boots of an unnamed mercenary who finds himself pursuing a target known only as "The Jackal", in the middle of civil unrest that’s threatening to tear the land apart. Players will be dropped into a highly detailed version of Africa (courtesy of Ubisoft’s proprietary Dunia engine) that spans nearly 50 KM and will allow them to play the game as they deem fit – just like last year’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
