Come February and there's no doubt love is in the air. Yes, it’s that time of year when you dip into your much-depleted bank account and spend some hard-earned money on your Valentine. In case you happen to be a techno maniac, here’s an idea you could try out this year that will keep your sweetheart happy – and allow you to play with multiple gadgets at the same time!
Step One: The Way to One's Heart...
If your partner’s mobile phone has a GPS unit (even Google Maps would suffice – anything that allows you to mark areas) here’s what you do. Select certain POIs (Points of Interest), perhaps in the shape of a heart if you really want to get into the swing of things. These hotspots (if I may call them that – heh!) should be in a conveniently compact area. It's preferable to avoid too much travel, or you may get an earful from your hot-and-bothered Valentine at the end of it all. And that's to be avoided at any cost.
Back to our mission. At each location you could have a friend meet your beloved and give him/her a token such as a flower (if your friend can be trusted, that is). The whole mission should be something on the lines of a treasure hunt, with interesting clues and people along the way. The last stop on the map could be someplace special to both of you, such as the coffee shop you went to on your first date.
Anyway, that 'someplace special' should be the location for Step Two. You can accompany your partner there or, better still, wait at the designated place. For goodness' sake, DON'T BE LATE!
Step Two: Dining and Winning
Let’s think out of the box for a moment. When I say 'movie', I don’t mean a crowded, noisy cinema hall. That's a sure-fire turn off. Besides, you might run into your ex there. So here are the ingredients: a large-screen PMP with a set of battery operated speakers. Let's hope your PMP has a provision for dual headphones, just in case the place you’ve chosen is somewhere outdoors and secluded.
Make sure the PMP is fully charged, and carry extra batteries to guard against the possibility of the screen going blank on you at a crucial moment. Forget action and adventure; select a mushy movie for a change. You might also want to make sure your player has plenty of romantic songs to serenade your partner through dinner.
Step Three: Making it Click
What you’ll need for Step Three is a small color photo printer. Make sure you have plenty of batteries. Also get your laptop (again fully charged) and the most vital ingredient of all, a digital camera or a mobile phone with a good camera. Capture plenty of images of the two of you. You can transfer the images to your laptop together and with Photoshop or other software create interesting pictures and print them via the printer. Many printers don’t require wires, so this isn't as far-fetched as you may think.
