Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates

RPG gamers will definitely not need to be told twice to pick this one up. When it comes to J-RPGs, Square Enix is God. Though the Crystal Chronicles veers a little to the 'childish', it doesn't detract from its deep gameplay. The good part is that their 3D DS engine is getting better with every game release. Though we're more excited about the upcoming Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy IV, this one would hopefully keep us busy till then. So, if you want a great RPG right now, this is it.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

If its a Mario-based RPG, it's bound to be good. Nintendo has come up with some excellent RPGs with a perfect blend of involving storylines, fleshed-out characters and excellent gameplay over the years, and this one is no different.

With the ability to have a party of four with Mario and Luigi from the past and the present, the game adds a bit of the old-school 'Lost Vikings'-style strategy to its RPG base. That and the good old Miyamoto humor makes this game a winner.

Brain Age Series

Have you ever wondered what your brain's age is? Neither did we until we got our hands on this game. We've been advocating how gaming improves your reflexes and decision-making skills, but the Brain Age games have conceived a fun way of practically proving it to you. This game is tuly the equivalent of a gym session for your mind.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village

If you've bought a handheld like the DS, it's pretty clear that you're open to new genres of games that make good use of DS's unique features. This one is unique in a lot of ways. Firstly, it's an adventure puzzle game – it uses an adventure element with a good storyline to tie in all the puzzles together. Secondly, it's thankfully not drawn in Japanese anime style.

No offence, but these days you've come to expect Japanese anime-like charactes in all 2D DS games, so the wholly Brit artwork in this one comes as a breath of fresh air. The puzzles are fun and challenging to the right degree, which seals the deal as far as we're concerned.
