Nintendogs

The game that got the Nintendo DS noticed in its early days, Nintendogs is still very popular with dog lovers everywhere. The premise is simple – you adopt a dog and take care of it. You feed it on time, give it those occasional baths, and take it out for walks. Just like a real dog, your Nintendog will follow your voice commands, learn new tricks, and win doggy contests for you.

Now isn't that just adorable? This is the game you can use to get nongamers in your family to appreciate your passion for video games.

Meteos

The best thing to happen to block-based puzzle games since Tetris, and the best part is that it's custom-made to suit the DS touchscreen! The premise is simple: just drag and drop the falling cubes to get the usual three-in-a-row combo.

It's not rocket science, but it's a helluva lot of fun. Just make sure you don't get the awful Disney version of this game.

Metroid Prime Hunters

Not too long ago, DS was considered the worst platform for first-person shooter games. Then Metroid Prime Hunters was released, and its innovative touchscreen-look ability turned out to be the next best thing since the mouse-look, and slapped all the non-believers across their gloating faces.

But it's not just the control, the overall gameplay on the DS turned out to be just as good (if not better) than even the original Gamecube versions. Metroid set the standard for some awesome FPS games that released later, and also turned out to be a brilliant single/multi-player experience for DS gamers.

Ninja Gaiden

The definitive ninja action game has made its way to the DS... and boy, what a game it is! The idea of using stylus slashes has been done before but not in a way that does the genre justice as this game.

Based on Team Ninja's reputation to deliver the goods, this is one of the few games that got a fan following even before it launched. Now that it's out there, we're absolutely loving it. Must have!
