The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Nintendo made some major changes in the series with the Phantom Hourglass, such as going in for a touchscreen-only control scheme and dumbing down the game's difficulty level. Well, we love all these changes, because the end result rocks. A lot of Zelda enthusiasts may disagree, but making the game more approachable only opens up a whole new audience, so we can't blame Nintendo for doing this.

Besides, it doesn't seem as if people are really complaining, as Phantom Hourglass is still counted as the best RPG on the DS till date. That more than qualifies it for our third-favorite recommendation.

Phoenix Wright/Apollo Justice Series

I probably don't need to convince you how good the Phoenix Wright games are. In India, you probably bought a DS to play this series. What I like best about the game is its simplicity. The biggest selling point of Phoenix Wright is its excellent narration.

As simple as the premise may seem, the game is definitely not as easy in the later stages as it may lead you to believe. If you're a fan of the lawyer-drama genre, you owe it to yourself to get at least one game in this series.

New Super Mario Bros

Do I really need to convince you to get a Mario game for your Nintendo console?!? That too, the best Mario platformer we've ever seen on a handheld console? Any DS owner's collection is incomplete without the New Super Mario Brothers game. It takes every precious memory you have of the older Mario games and gives it a facelift to do complete justice to this generation.

The 3D characters in a 2D world works especially well with a platformer like this – definitely a better deal than the aged Super Mario 64 DS!
