Sony VGNAR18GP

Sony maybe going through a rough patch right now with its notebook batteries being recalled worldwide, but that has not stopped them from making some of the most powerful laptops around. The Sony VGNAR18GP is a perfect example of Sony’s quality engineering. Built on Intel’s Dual-core platform it comes with a very powerful T2600 (clock speed of 2.16 GHz), 1 GB of system RAM and a huge 160 GB HDD. Its graphical core is powered by the Nvidia Geforce Go 7600 GT and it has a large 17-inch screen capable of a native resolution of 1920 x1200. If that was not powerful enough, it ships with a huge array of connectivity ports, which include three USB 2.0 Slots, one Firewire port, Cardbus support and even HDMI.

One unique fact about this laptop is the fact that it ships with a Blu-Ray writer. Blu-Ray is a next-generation storage medium made by Sony that supports storage up to 50 GB of data on a single disc. Priced at Rs. 1,99,000 this is one of most powerful laptops around right now and perfect for completely doing away with your desktop.

Excellent article, i liked the dell xps system. I have been using dell latitudes for over two years and they are really rugged and good featured.

i also liked the sony vaio, having one of these is like owing a ferrari.

i suggest you do a comparision of palmtop and other hand helds as well - probably that could be titled as "replacement for your laptop" :)

cheers,

The major factor that still allows desktops to beat laptops is the cost. All these high end laptops retails above 70k. Most home users are willing to spare 25k - 40k max on a pc.

also, given the fact that computer hardware becomes redundant in no time, anyone with enough funds will also think twice before investing in something that will get oudated in a matter of months.

a desktop offers more hard disk space. One can change a component without worry eg: the latest graphics or sound card, more hard disk space, more memory, better keyboard or lcd display without much hassle. Desktop components cost less than their laptop counterparts and are easy to install.

manufacturer dependency can be avoided with non branded desktops and one can get of the best value for money items available.
