Whenever one considers buying a laptop, the first name that comes to mind is HP. HP’s brand-name recognition and track record for making quality laptops is second to none. It should therefore come as no surprise to see HP's latest effort being included here. The HP DV9010TX picks up from the HP DV8216TX, which we have included in our previous roundups. The newly updated model takes it a step further by moving to the Core2Duo platform and adding more RAM. The HP DV9010 TX runs on a powerful T7200 Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which runs at a clock speed of 2.0 GHz, packs in 2 GB of system memory and retains the dual-drive system that HP implements in its premium laptops. In this case HP offers 160 GB of space (80x2 GB). The graphical core has been updated to the newer Nvidia Go 7600 graphics chipset. HP has chosen to offer the same connectivity options as before. Four USB 2.0 slots, 1 Firewire, S-Video, HDMI and VGA-out are present. The optical drive is dual-layer capable. This laptop is available at an end-user price of Rs. 95,000 and can be picked up from Croma the new digital lifestyle store at Juhu.

Sony VGNAR18GP
The Sony VGNAR18GP is a perfect example of Sony’s quality engineering.
The Sony VGNAR18GP continues to be sold on Intel’s original Dual-core platform. It ships with the T2600 Core Duo processor (clock speed of 2.16 GHz), 1 GB of system RAM and a huge 160 GB HDD. Its graphical core is now powered by the Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 GT and it has retained its 17-inch screen which is capable of a native HD-Ready resolution of 1920 x1200. Sony has chosen to increase its connectivity ports, which now include three USB 2.0 Slots, one Firewire port, Cardbus support and HDMI.
Despite its powerful specifications the one factor of this laptop that makes it stand out is the fact that that it ships with a Blu-Ray writer. Blu-Ray is a next-generation storage medium made by Sony that supports storage up to 50 GB of data on a single disc. Priced at Rs. 1, 99,000 this is an HD-Ready multimedia powerhouse for which other manufacturers have no answer.
