High Zoom Cameras Under Rs. 15,000
By: Gagan Gupta   |   Sep 19, 2007

If you've been a regular at Tech2, you've probably figured by now how much importance we give to camera zoom over megapixel count. We've done numerous articles about zoom levels and how you can use them to your advantage.

The problem is that most phones with high zoom levels tend to be high even in their prices. So in case you're looking for more than the standard 3x optical zoom and don't intend on paying a lot for it, here are three great cameras you can get for under Rs. 15,000.

Fuji Finepix S5700
Our recent review fetched this camera a great score of 4.5 out of 5 stars for its excellent performance at a humble price. Even though the biggest USP of the camera is its 10x optical zoom, just about everything was top notch. It has a grip you will love clinging to, and it weighs very little despite packing in four AA batteries. Moreover, the image quality too was impressive overall, with great colors and good detail levels. But the best part about the S5700 was definitely its amazing battery life. Very highly recommended at its price of Rs. 12,990.

why Kodak is not doing well despite their agressive prices ? Is the quality issue or service an issue ?
manoj @ Nov 03, 2007
You get what you pay for:

Some corner blurriness, blown highlights, and purple fringing
Redeye a problem
Lens is slow at the wide-angle end
Disappointing continuous shooting modes
Sluggish shot-to-shot and image playback speeds
Poorly implemented manual focus feature
Electronic viewfinder is small, lacks diopter correction
Plastic tripod mount
No USB 2.0 High Speed support
KC @ Sep 29, 2007
why not you review the nikon s10 with 10x optical joom with very slim finish available under Rs15000.00.
Bidyut Ghosh @ Sep 25, 2007
Siddharth, all these prices are with bill and warranty from the retailers. Gray market prices are lesser than the ones mentioned here, but you lose out on the warranty part.

Dennis, are we talking about the same Fujifilm Finepix 5700 here? I persnally took over 150 shots from the camera, with and without flash. Of course you should make sure that you use NiMH batteries with your cameras instead of regular Alkaline batteries. As for complexity, well... that's a subjective opinion.

Cheers.
Gagan Gupta @ Sep 24, 2007
Who the hell does your reviews ? The 5700 is NOT recommended for novices , its got a maddeningly complex menu system that makes even the simplest changes annoyingly long. Plus low-light shot capability is bad along with high batt. drain.

Most would just stick to auto, that kinda makes the entire creative ability of the camera redundant , right ?
Dennis Raul @ Sep 21, 2007
Can you please tell that the prices that you have quoted is from the grey market or are these cameras really available under Rs.15000???
Siddharth @ Sep 21, 2007
Remember the days when 1.3 MP digicams were priced at Rs. 12000 and above...
