5 Phones with 3.5mm Jack
By: Laiq Qureshi   |   Sep 25, 2008

Mobile phones these days do practically everything. And why not? They happen to be the lifeline of the current generation. Wait a while longer, and somebody might just conceive a dancing phone. It’s a good thing no one’s suggested this idea to Honda. (Why Honda? Well, for one they are technologically advanced; after all, they built the Asimo, the world’s first robot capable of running.)

I have always maintained that music and phones should be kept separate, but that’s primarily the concern of a music aficionado. Yet, it’s appreciable to know so many phone makers are striving hard at providing good music. However, even before you get out buying the right music phone, don’t forget to include an important aspect in your list of required capabilities — a 3.5mm jack.

Why? There are two reasons. First, it thwarts the company’s effort to peddle proprietary connection slots. Second, you can use any pair of good-quality earphones to enjoy your music. So it's money well spent. Agreed? Let’s proceed.

iPhone 3G
You saw this coming up first, didn’t you? Smart! But remember this is not a top five list; you can’t have a bigger and better 3.5mm slot, right?

Apart from the 3.5mm jack, it has the same audio quality as the iPods. The music player’s good and one can certainly make the best use of good earphones to leverage the sound quality. If you need to know a detailed review on what the phone can do, read it here. It costs Rs 31,000 for the 8GB version, and Rs 36,100 for the 16GB version.

Nokia N95 8GB
How can I forget the N95? It’s a true music lover’s delight. Not only does it have a 3.5mm jack, it's a great music player too.

Indeed, the phone is meant to be a music player; why else would the 8GB version exist? It whups the iPhone’s ass (as some might say). No touchscreen though, but there are plenty of multimedia features. You can read more here. It costs around Rs 28,000. Did I hear an ouch? Well, why not try to win an N95 by taking part in the current contest? But hurry, it's on for only a few days!

3.5 to 2.5 converters are available for around Rs. 15 over the counter in any electronics parts shop. So I dont think we need to change our phone for that.

What abt Nokia N82. It has 3.5 mm jack. The music is good too.

I'm loving it.
Tamil Selvan @ Sep 26, 2008
I agree that 3.5mm jack is must now days for the proper compatibility and usage. However I have also tried 2.5mm converters which convert a 2.5 mm jack to 3.5 mm jack and can be easily obtained from ebay. So no need to buy a new phone.
