Defense of the Ancients (DotA), is almost single-handedly responsible for making a whole lot of Counter-Strike (and other such mindless FPS) players embrace the more strategic and intelligent side of team-based combat, that this game provides. DotA has managed to draw the attention of gamers from all corners of the world, with its fast-paced action and strategic game-play that, appeals to almost anyone who likes to be challenged. With its vast array of heroes to pick from, the game provides an very robust environment for players to battle each other. You can pick a hero that suits your play-style the most; and here is a list of 10 heroes that I love playing with, and for a detailed guide to any one of them, click on its name:
Primary Role: Support/Defense
The death knight Abaddon, is a valuable addition to the ranks of any team. His powers form the perfect balance between attack and defense, making him a very versatile hero to play. Apart from his badass looks, he has some incredibly all-rounded spells, with which he can either, slay his foes or rescue a comrade from the jaws of certain death. This hero is a wall, and if played correctly, this wall will never crumble. His Death Coil and Aphotic shield work in perfect unison with his high amount of hitpoints, to make him one of the toughest guys around. If played correctly, you can take on multiple heroes alone. Although his lane pushing abilities are limited at low levels, they’re decent enough to provide him with the resources he needs.
Mangix - The Pandaren Battlemaster
Primary Role: Hero Killer, Tank
Don’t be fooled by his innocent-looking panda faced, this guy is lethal in every sense of the word; he’s powerful, deadly and drunk (he never loses a bar fight). With a huge amount of strength growth and the greatest passive power in the game—Drunken Brawler (which makes his enemies miss attacks on him, and adds a chance for a critical attack), this hero is extremely hard to kill. In case you do manage to lower his hitpoints, he can use his ultimate 'Primal Split', then kick your ass, and eventually go home a happy panda. Incase he feels like killing a few heroes, he can Thunder Clap their puny asses and make short work of them with his critical strikes. Rest assured, he is one of the most fun heroes to play.
Primary Role: Hero Killer, Intelligence-based hero harasser
Magina is a difficult hero to master. Timing and speed are the two key elements when playing Magina, and if you’ve mastered those two aspects of his game there’s no stopping him. This speed demon's attack speed goes over the roof, just by giving him a set of Power Treads. When combined with Mana Break (which burns away mana per shot), you can rid almost any hero of his mana within seconds, making them easy prey for you. He is very fragile in the beginning, but to compensate for that, you get the Blink spell which allows you to move around really quickly. When coupled with his Spell shield (which reduces spell damage), he can absolutely decimate intelligence based heroes. Learn to play him well and every hero in the game will fear you.
