Even after playing a ton of online shooters including strategy/shooter hybrids like Natural Selection, it took me a while to get the hang of Savage 2: A Tortured Soul; so I can only imagine how unnerving it must seem to someone new to the genre. While the game seems complex on the surface, when you begin to dig deeper you realize that it’s based on very simple principles. In this guide, I’m going to help you understand what those are and equip you to help your team emerge victorious.
On a side note, if you don’t own a copy of the game you can download it for free from here. Do bear in mind though that the free version of the game doesn’t have full functionality; if you wish to enjoy the game to its fullest, I recommend that you buy it off Steam.
The Basics
Savage 2 is all about playing as a team and it promotes you to do so. You gain experience for playing your part on the battlefield, whether it’s the part of a healer, attacker, defender, siege or a saboteur. There are two sides in the game – the Legion of Man and the Beast Horde. While each side may seem different on the surface, they are quite similar. I recommend that you spend an equal amount of time with each side to get acquainted with the nuances.
Your goal is to destroy the enemy’s command center, which may be a stronghold if you’re a beast or a lair if you’re a man. To go about doing this, you have to weaken the enemy first by crippling their economy.
