Strategy:
Your greatest strength while playing the Recon Class, is the ability to go unnoticed. If you’re sniping, you’re pretty much useless if your enemy knows where you are, and if you’re going covert, you’re a free frag for your enemies if you’re spotted. To ensure that you don’t get spotted, stay away from open areas and common vantage points. An overlying ledge that is right in front of your enemy’s base might be a tempting place to snipe from, but it also leaves you vulnerable to enemy fire. What you’d rather do is take up a spot that’s less exposed like a corner or a passage that’s rarely used. This ensures that you don’t get seen when you fire a shot, allowing you to snipe for longer periods.
Getting to a good vantage point is pretty much useless if you don’t know how to snipe. To shoot effectively, you have to ensure that your gun is as stable as possible. Going prone can make your aim very stable, but it also makes you less mobile; make sure that you only go prone once you’ve reached your destination, else you’ll move real sluggishly. Once you’re at your vantage point, it’s time to pop-some heads. When you see an enemy, make sure that you aim for either his head or chest. A headshot kills instantly, while a shot to the chest does a high amount of damage, softening him up so that your team can kill him. A headshot might not be possible if your target moves too fast, so take your time and wait for him to either slow down, or move in a path that makes it easier for you to shoot. One advice I have for all sniper out there is: When in doubt, SHOOT! A lot of times people just don’t shoot until they have a clear shot. By doing this you’re just wasting time, allowing your enemies to advance to your team’s position. So the next time you think that you *might* be able to get a shot in, take the shot and have no regrets. It’s better to have shot and missed, than to have not shot at all, right? One last thing – don’t forget to place an APM behind you if your back is exposed while sniping; this ensures that you don’t get knifed too often. Follow these basic guidelines and always be patient and quick. Remember, Speed + Accuracy = A good Recon Solder.
