Azgalor – The Pit Lord
Primary Attribute: Strength
Primary Role: Pusher / Defender / Support
( Aww... Look at him smile!)
Introduction:
Azgalor is a strength hero with all active, high-mana cost spells and extremely slow attack speed; what does that make him? A strength based spell caster of course. What’s worse is that he doesn’t have any high damage nuke either, making him the last choice on a lot of DotA player’s lists. Needless to say, most people detest playing him since his mana pool is rather small and he feels too sluggish. Even though he is a bit underpowered, in the right hands he can wreak havoc and soften your enemies so that you team can dive in for the kill. In this guide we shall make him a spell caster using items to boost his mana pool.
The Good:
AoE devastation = Pit Lord
Has a great Area disable
Can push lanes in no time
Decent intelligence growth
The Bad:
Inadequate mana pool
Slow movement/attack speed
Can be targeted very easily
Lacks a nuke
Firestorm (Mana Cost - 100 /110/120/130/ Cooldown – 14 Sec.)
Description: Calls down 6 waves of fire that damage enemy units in an area. Each wave deals initial damage and then burns enemies for 2 seconds. The damage done per wave increases from 25 to 70 with skill level.
Farming with the Pit Lord isn't a very easy task initially. This is the one spell that changes that to an extent. The crazy amount of damage couple with the large AoE is awesome to stop enemy pushes and get a few creep kills along the way. Be sure not to use it too much though, since your mana pool isn't too great, and this spell costs a lot of mana to cast.
Pit of Malice (Mana Cost - 100/115/130/145/ Cooldown – 22 Sec.)
Description: A deadly pit is conjured at target location. Any unit that enters it becomes corrupted with malicious forces and are unable to move for some time. The disable lasts for 0.75 to 3 seconds depending on level.
Pit of Malice is just awesome when used with other area damage heroes such as Pugna or Leshrac. Be sure to get as many heroes in it as you can though, because the spell's cooldown isn't the best. Get a hero like Crystal Maiden or Treant Protector to cast their ultimate while your enemies are disabled, and you're all set to pick them off one by one.
Expulsion (Mana Cost – 100/110/120/130/ Cooldown – 15 Sec.)
Description: Ignites the rotten gases of corpses, detonating them to cause damage to any enemy within the explosion radius. Each explosion fuels another until there are no more corpses in the area. Does a ministun on damaged units. The stun is similar to the effect from a Monkey King Bar, while the damage dealt changes from 20 to 80 per corpse.
The spell might seem a little useless in the beginning of the game, but only once you reach the later stages of the game where creep waves are larger, do you see the true potential of this spell.
Dark Rift (Mana Cost – 150/225/300/ Cooldown – 180/160/140 Sec.)
Description: Opens rifts that pass through the netherworld at his present position and a target unit/building simultaneously. Teleports you and your nearby allies heroes through the rift. Unable to target enemy units.
This spell is basically a team teleport. It's a great way to get your team to a gank spot quick, to help a teammate or kill your enemies one by one, when they least expect it. The Mana cost at level 3 might be too much, but when you get your team in time to save a base tower, it all seems worth it.

Early Game:
Items you should buy:

Your hero's rather weak, slow and squishy at this point. Your attack animation is too slow to last hit well too, so try and farm using Firestorm. Your mana pool will be pretty tiny too, so to help you with that, we shall get an Eul's Sceptre of Divinity first. Try and stay safe and just survive this stage without getting ganked.
Mid Game:
Items you should buy:

Pit of malice coupled with Firestorm starts doing a good bit of damage at this point. Your main objective should be preventing pushes at supporting your teammates. To help you with just that, you've got your Boots of Teleportation as well as Dark Rift, so that you can move around the map with ease. Try and collect as much cash while doing so, try not to die.
Late Game:
Items you should buy:

Your hero becomes a pretty worthy adversary at this point; when in team battles you should trap your enemies, use Firestorm, followed by Expulsion (provided they're a good number of corpses nearby). The Expulsion damage coupled with Firestorm should be enough to soften most of them up. While they're trapped, use your Manta Style to add to the confusion - if 3 huge monstrosities don't bedazzle them, then I don't know what will. Stay with your team, and once you get your Heart of Tarresque, you should be able to tank towers with ease.
