Features
Features make a huge difference when it comes to choosing either of these players. The most significant difference are 3 main features. You’ll notice them almost immediately; the iPod comes with a couple of simple games and the Creative Vision:M has an FM radio with a recorder and a separate voice recorder as well. Except for Solitaire and the Music quiz games, the others are dull and simply a way to pass time when you’re absolutely bored out of your mind. But the Vision:M can be used as a dictaphone to record conversations and most importantly you have the radio. In a country like ours that thrives on its airwaves, this is definitely a PLUS. The FM recorder only becomes a bonus feature, and the pick up is good.
The Creative also has a choice of six different color schemes to suit your mood. But what I’m a big fan of is the separate options that open up for all the various functions. For example, while a video is playing you have options to make the video 'Fit to screen' or stretch the size. The side menus also give you direct access to the settings menu to make other adjustments. The Image menus allow you to zoom in to particular images, rotate the image and make other changes as well. To have direct access to various options and settings is for sure, a good choice.
What I also like is the fact that you can delete files directly from the player itself and create playlists as well. So there's no need to keep connecting the player to your PC. There's also the search options available in both players. While the iPod allows you to move from one alphabet to the next and locates files according to your selections, it also allows you to type the full name of a specific song or artist, to narrow the search. The Creative on the other hand, has the alphabets located at the side of the lists themselves. All you need to do is go to the alphabet and it'll locate all the songs in that order. Unfortunately you can’t search for any specific song or artist’s name.
I also have to admit that the battery life of the Vision:M rocks, while that of the iPod... well.... just 'Pop' rocks. The Battery life of the Vision:M was exceptional as compared to the iPod. It seems like the older the iPod the worse the battery got but the Creative's battery remained quite standard from an older version to the newer one. So when it comes to features, the Creative is out in front with the iPod not too close behind.
