MP3 players are getting cheaper, and if you were waiting so far to buy a cheap player then here is a ready-guide all spiced up on the platter. Trust me no prejudice involved, all hard facts. Read on.
iPod Shuffle (second generation) 1GB
iPod has been in the scene for a very long time and we have seen plenty of players trying to duplicate it in many ways. What we like about it? To begin with, the output quality of the Shuffle is better than the rest in its category. You have to understand that with players without a screen, there is absolutely no room for things like EQ, Bass boost etc. So it is imperative that the company dishes out products that buyers can juice more out of. The Shuffle is a perfect example of this.
The levels are well balanced, and this is something that is very difficult to find in MP3 players selling at this cost. Apple has been consistent with not only the sound levels but also the decibel levels. iPod sound is loud!!
Also the Shuffle picks up the low frequencies a lot better than most players I have reviewed. I simply love the way the Shuffle delivers the bass. You can feel the thump at louder volume levels without jarring the sound at all. Also the clarity of sound is commendable.
If we talk about the basic look and feel of the product, Apple is no stranger to style. Departing from the old design, the new shuffles are quite chic. It's tiny, and you may run the risk of losing it your bag. You can simply clip it on to your belt loop of the jeans or attach it to your purse strap.
One of the worst things about the player, however, would be that you can't drag-drop content. You will need iTunes to transfer files. But you can always reduce stress by using Winamp or WMP11 to transfer files. In my opinion, out of the three, iTunes takes longer.
The earphones also need a special mention. It has been my observation that many good products are plagued by being bundled with a bad set of earphones. The ones that come with the package are, in one word, brilliant. Although they can't handle intense bass levels. It's always a better choice to upgrade to a better set of ear/headphones. The battery life of the shuffle is a good 12 hours. At the street price of Rs. 3,450, this one still is the market leader.
