An Interview with Sony's Ken Nakazawa
By: Avinash Bali   |   May 17, 2007

What do you guys think about the Xbox 360 and the Wii?

Gaming in India as a market is relatively untapped. With such a huge potential we are happy that there are more brands to help us grow and develop the market.

What kind of accessories can we expect in the future?

The PlayStation3 is available with a stellar line-up of over 12 game titles that include the critically acclaimed Resistance: Fall of Man, MotorStorm, Genji, Days of the Blade, FORMULA ONE CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION and Ridge Racer7. Other game titles include Def Jam: Icon, Fight Night Round 3, NBA Street 4 Homecourt 2007, Need for Speed Carbon, The Godfather: The Don’s Edition, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007, Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom.

Optional accessories that are available at an additional cost are:

  • An additional PS3 SIXAXIS Wireless Controller. PS3 supports up to seven wireless controllers at one time.
  • BD Remote Control – for remote control over the Blu-ray Disc Player features or connections with PS3 via Bluetooth.
  • HDMI cable – For the simplest way of connecting PS3 to HD TV sets.

The PS3 also supports the following via the PS3 System Software (XMB):

  • PS3 "EyeToy Camera", "Sing Star Microphone", "Eye3 Camera", "SOCOM USB Headset".
  • Standard USB, Bluetooth drivers (compatibility with specific products will not be guaranteed at this time.)

PLAYSTATION Network is a safe and secure system allowing consumers to play and communications globally via a single account. All you have to do is register free on the PLAYSTATION Network and with their globally unique Online ID access all Network features such as online multiplayer gaming, chat, voice or video communication, download free content or in the near future shop at the online PlayStation Store.

Microsoft recently launched the Elite. Can we expect a similar upgrade from Sony in the near future?

Sony is constantly researching and innovating products, so upgrades and completely new products can and always should be expected.

Sony has been launching raids all over India but piracy will never fully be curbed from this country especially with the internet. How do you guys plan on tackling that issue?

The grey market has been an area of concern for the gaming industry over the past few years. However, with the changing duty structure and reducing price gap between original and grey market products consumers are increasingly looking at buying original products with assured warranty and quality features. Furthermore our extensive retail network of Sony stores ensures a far wider reach for our products. We are also planning to initiate an anti piracy drive soon.

Two of the questions fired at them went unanswered so Milestone Interactive’s CEO, Jayant Sharma jumped in to fill in the blanks.

MS has platinum games that sell for anything between Rs. 1500 – Rs. 1700 instead of the usual 2510. Can we expect a similar treatment for PS3 games in the future as well?

Yes. We will have PS3 mid-price games nearer to the Winter/Holiday Season.

Is Killzone 2 really in the pipelines? Will this game be out by this year?

Killzone for the PS3 is definitely work in progress. It has already been getting great reviews worldwide and we should launch with the title early next year.

first of all the ps3 costs only 600$ which is about 24000rupees but with the duty and all that crap it costs 40000 which is ridiculously expensive. Moreover ps3 piracy hasn still hit the market. So only when piracy comes for ps3 it will be a hit in india and other developing and under developed countries. The ps2 is a huge success in india bcos of the availability of pirated ps2 games at 40rupees that too here in chennai.piracy is actually a game developers, publishers problem.Sony is actabually happy that piracy is there for their gaming consoles otherwise how can people spend 2999rupees for a game.moreover about the raids which sony has been doing is all a drama.they jus want to do so that the game developers dont get a doubt on sonys credibility!

I wonder how many have the PS3 in India? Sony has officially shipped only 1500 PS3 for India market. Well that is how much it thinks it will sell in India officially - 1500 PS3 for 100 crore population of India. We are way behind in Gaming as far as PS3 is concerned but then PS3 reviews are good, that is for future.

@ Mohit

I did ask him about Sony's online plans for the PS3 in India but those questions went unanswered.
Avinash Bali @ May 18, 2007
AVINASH YOU SHOULD HAVE ASKED HIM ABOUT ONLINE PLANS IN INDIA AND IF GAMES LIKE METAL GEAR SOLID 4 WILL BE LAUNCHED HERE...AND MANY SUCH QUESTIONS RELATED TO OUR PROBLEMS.IT WOULD HAVE REALLY CLEARED MANY DOUBTS IN EVERY PS3 OWNERS IN THIS COUNTRY.
MOHIT @ May 18, 2007
well that sounds good but xbox is still better priced and their games prices are coming down too therefore we have to wait and watch wether the ps hype sells more or not .. also the sony people have to bring down their console and game prices if they want to win the middle class
Shamik Mitra @ May 18, 2007
for now xbox 360 is better.it will also evolve in the future and take on ps3.there is not much difference in xbox360 & ps3 as both of them have almost the same graphics.but ps3 is available in 30000 thousand 60 gig model in grey market.
prashant @ May 17, 2007
