Sudoku

Sudoku is a relatively recent phenomenon that's found incredible success with its engaging gameplay on numbers. I'm badly addicted to this and to satisfy this craving a portable version was all I needed. Now I can creatively spend many hours while on the move.

7-Zip

7-Zip is a simple archival management tool that offers Rar/Ace/Zip support. It also has its own file format (.7z) which offers very good compression levels. Like a lot of other applications in this roundup, it can be simply carried in a folder and launched and used without the need for installation'

YamIpod

The iPod is more than a phenomenon. It has spawned an entire ecosystem around itself and become  another cultural icon from Apple’s stables. Unfortunately, while the player itself is excellent, it's tied into the rather system heavy hog of a software called iTunes. iTunes is neither portable nor lightweight, and this poses problems for iPod users who want to sort out their song list on the move.

They don’t have to look very far. The answer lies in YamiPod – a freeware application that efficiently manages your iPod under Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. It can be run directly from a USB stick and needs no installation.  For further details check out this link.

While most of these may be known to you, they are only a fraction of the huge number of portable applications at your disposal. You can check out a huge and well-maintained list here.
