The iPhone is keen on promoting third party apps, so we checked out an extensive list. What makes it fun is that the applications can make use of features such as the accelerometer and the touchscreen to enhance the experience. Since the iPhone 3G is almost here in India, I thought it would be a good time to run you through some available apps. And so, here are some that I tested on the iPod Touch. To get them, you will need to have an iTunes store account. Have fun!
The Little Pine Tree
We have all heard fairy tales when we were young. Yes, you guessed right -- it's not a game, but an illustrated ebook for your kids. Cool parents can download this app that doesn't need to be read; just played.
The story reads each page as you flip through. There's a bonus section at the end with facts about the pine tree and where you can find them. The app costs $0.99 and is kind of sweet. It's nothing revolutionary, although the finish is pretty neat, with bird chirps and jungle noises in the background. Pretty cool!
iTarot
The Queen of Chalices card suggests that my power today lies in intuition and drama. Yes, I would like to believe in my intuitive powers, and I strongly feel like giving this a pass. Tarot card reading is highly subjective, and being a non-believer I would like to look at this app objectively. There are 78 cards in each Tarot deck, and if you believe in it, why not go for it? The app is very simple to handle and is absolutely free for download.
Units
Every phone these days come bundled with this app. A very light version, Units is a comprehensive app that's really useful. What I like about it is that unlike most conversion apps, this complements the Touch's interactivity level and works pretty much like a calc. You can save modes that you use often and access them quickly.
You will need to do a currency update from iTunes, or just manually key them in. If you like it, you can buy it for $0.99.
