Top 4 VFM Monitors
By: Jayesh Mansukhani   |   Sep 17, 2008

One very competitive category, apart from the GPU market, is the PC monitor segment. Not only is there a bewildering range of options, prices can vary widely. In such a confusing industry, we decided to make things simple for you by featuring those monitors that we feel offer the best value for money today.

We have divided our choices into 17-, 19-, 20-, and 22-inch monitors. Please note that the prices were obtained in Mumbai. Depending on supply and demand, these prices can vary, virtually on a day to day basis. We have also consciously chosen not to include the 24-inch models; that list will be separately compiled and put up later.

17-inch: LG L177WSB

This is easily the most crowded segment, with virtually every manufacturer offering at least three models. It can be quite daunting for the average consumer. After sifting through the list, we decided to go with LG for two simple reasons. Not only are its monitors industry-leading in terms of features and reliability, they also offer what is arguably the best after sales service in the country.

The model we chose for this roundup is the LG L177WSB. This 17-inch widescreen monitor has a native resolution of 1440 x 900, 5000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and 8ms response time, all in a beautiful black glossy body. It has a viewing angle of 160/160 which is on par with other monitors in this segment. It comes with a D-SUB connector, and costs Rs 8200.

19-inch: LG194WT

LG’s domination spills over into the next segment as well. The LG194WT picks up where the L177WSB leaves off. It has similar specifications in some areas, but is better in others. This 19-incher has a native resolution of 1440 x 900, offers 5000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, has a response time of 5ms, and a viewing angle of 170/170. It offers both D-SUB and DVI-D connectors.

The LG194WT is available for Rs 9100. If this model is not available in your area, do check out the LG192WS, which is similar in every respect to the LG194WT but lacks the DVI-D connector. It costs Rs 8950.

Well one reason for Dell superiority over other is that Dell itself is the OEM of its own products.

while most of the other companies like Samsung, Sony, lg have their common OEM in china and other parts.

yaa ......

i a nice short list .....

i have a doubt ...!! I have heard from many people that Dell is a nice brand and they are monitors are just tooo awesome ...!!! And that is what seems from their physical appearance and the brand's market reputation of being the best in the world .....!! But but but .... they never ever seemed appealing to me by the specifications the company provides ......!!

The LG monitors that Mr. Manish suggested [LG L226WTQ
LG L206WTQ
LG W2252S] have a much much better dynamic contrast ratio [nearly 6-7 times better than the Dells) better response times and better viewing angles still why are these Dell monitors are considered to be superior over other ......!! why is it so ......???

SAMSUNG is the best LCD in the univers even in the YUMLOK and PATAAL LOK and BRAHMLOK samsung screen are being delivered in their various department.
Not every common person can find out the best quality among LCDs brand ask the creative peoples or gamers who see something better in their screen. common peoples opinion should not be taken seriously. ask only professional peoples then u can make better deal.

I have a Dell 19 inch monitor. ITis truly amazing. I have seen the offering from LG as well as Samsung. I would rate it as follows

DELL
Samsung ~LG

@Manish

Your lack of knowledge is quite acute is it not? The 22" inch Dell pull ahead simply due No HDMI, no pivot, swivel or height adjustment as put by Cnet UK. Dell's image quality and contrast PWN LG anyday.

Please do searches on the Dell before you open your mouth and assure everyone that you are an idiot.Secondly you have called it a review!? This is a list round-up.... its subjective... love it or leave it.
rajesh @ Sep 19, 2008
I really would REQUEST a reply from the reviewer, and want to ask him or her about missing out on these models.

LG L226WTQ
LG L206WTQ
LG W2252S

Check the international reviews and you would know what I mean these models from LG have squashed DELL left right and center.

Now Samsung has also come out with approximately same specification models and they are also worth a dekho.

SERIOUSLY disappointed with the review.......
Manish @ Sep 19, 2008
