The report from Bloomberg says the M6 iPad Pro model will be launching in 2027 and the device will be lining up alongside the new version of Apple Pencil USB C and the Pencil Pro. Having two versions of the Pencil allows Apple to cater to different iPad users, but the Pro model is mainly targeting the iPad Pro audience with advanced features in tow.

New Apple Pencil incoming?

The report suggests Apple will be forced to comply with new regulations from the European Union (EU) which requires consumer devices to come with a removable battery.

The base version of the Pencil does get a USB slot hiding behind the panel, which can be easily replaced with a battery that should make the affordable Pencil easier to repair and replace parts when needed.

The report doesn’t clearly state these changes with the Pencil series, especially on the Pro that will be a tough design sell and might continue with the wireless-only charging support.

As you might know, the USB C Pencil was introduced in November 2023, while the Pencil Pro came to the market in May 2024 with features like squeeze gestures, and haptic feedback available for the Pro users.

We don’t expect the look of the Pencil to change much, in fact, most people might continue to use their existing units unless Apple decides to give them a befitting reason to upgrade.

The iPads recently got a big price bump across markets but for buyers in India the base model now costs around Rs 50,000 while the iPad Air has gone above Rs 70,000 for the Wi-Fi version. The 2027 M6 iPad models are unlikely to come cheap and these Pencils will be part of the overhauled lineup in the market.
