Anthropic’s Mythos is causing havoc: What is it and why is everyone scared

Anthropic is a big part of the changing AI narrative and it has built a scary model called Mythos that has evening jostling to protect their vested interests. AI models are supposedly going to help with healthcare, help you draft emails and even create movies. But these same AI models can become dangerous, especially if the bad actors misuse and create new-age attacks that leave millions vulnerable.
This is the threat posed by Mythos that Anthropic is warning about and hopes that governments realise its risk of using and also seeing the bane of having this model in the wrong hands.

Mythos AI has everyone worried
It is not often when the White House summons a company and opposes them from letting others access a technology. Mythos AI is one of the rare instances when it is being done as Anthropic looks to serve its own business needs but with a big asterisk around security of users and countries at stake. Anthropic hasn’t helped its case in many ways by coming out in the public and making claims like, “Mythos is powerful enough to enable dangerous cyberattacks,” as reported by WSJ in its report earlier.

The company has mostly decided to give it a limited release but Bloomberg claims a small group of users have got unauthorised access to Mythos which has raised the alarms further.
Wider consequences
The Indian government is worried about how Mythos can overpower the domestic industry and is seeking access to the AI model to study its strengths and vulnerabilities. In fact, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In from the Centre has even issued its advisory linked to the AI-driven cyber risks that can have large scale impact. The last thing you want is the tool you heavily depend on to upscale becomes the weapon of choice for the hackers to exploit the obvious weaknesses.
AI is already making companies sweat on their future roadmap which has triggered mass layoffs across the board and even giants like Google, Amazon and Meta are not immune to the transition. Mythos is adding more layers of threat from AI and sounds like the start of a challenging phase that many will have to navigate as they look to adapt or perish.
