iPhone 17 is the best-selling model in Q1 this year: What about Android phones?

Looks like Apple’s push to for major upgrades for the iPhone 17 model has reaped big returns. A new report claims the latest base iPhone was the best-selling model in Q1 2026 after launching in September last year across markets.
This laurel is not just for a few markets but globally, which shows the impact and popularity of the iPhone 17 model among buyers this time around. It is hardly surprising to see iPhone 17 do well in the market and most people suggested the upgrades on offer made it the most obvious option to choose.

Apple is once again heading the sale charts in Q1 2026 and that even includes the iPhone 17 Pro and the 17 Pro Max models. That’s not all, you also have the iPhone 16 in the sixth spot, according to the report by Counterpoint Research.

The premium segment has mostly been covered by Apple and Samsung even though you have plenty of other brands like Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo trying their luck in the market. But these industry reports paint the real picture of what the buyer actually would prefer when spending big on a new phone.
Samsung is the other big presence on the charts but none of the 2026 flagships have made the cut from the brand. Instead, you have the Galaxy A07 4G, Galaxy A17 5G joining up with last year’s Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A17 4G models.
While none of the premium phones from Chinese brands made it to the top, Xiaomi’s Redmi A5 managed to breach the duopoly and the budget Android phone seems to have done well in the markets since its launch.
Coming back to iPhone 17, Apple did manage to keep the same price but with some notable upgrades. This is the first base iPhone to feature ProMotion 120Hz display, along with a new 48MP dual rear camera setup and borrowed the front shooter from the Pro models. The iPhone 17 price in India starts from Rs 82,900 for the base 256GB model in the country.
