Apple is set to bring the iPhone 18 Pro series to the market next month and it seems the new flagship models will have some note-worthy upgrades. The brand is tipped to be using a new A20 Pro chipset which is going to be based on a 2nm process that not only means a smaller chip on board but leaves room for other hardware upgrades under the hood.

This might sound very technical but the iPhone Pro devices have already got the Pro-treatment in terms of what you end up paying and the 2026-27 flagships could even better Apple’s own performance bet with other benefits on the cards.

The A20 Pro boost for iPhone 18 Pros

Using the A20 Pro chip with 12GB RAM would make the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max ready for Siri AI and on-device AI applications but there is a lot of chatter in the rumour mills around the numbers that will do the actual talking for the chip.

According to a tipster, the A20 Pro could offer 18 percent better performance compared to last year’s A19 SoC series, and an even bigger 30 percent improved efficiency that should make the battery on the iPhone 18 Pros run far longer than the current flagships.

More importantly, the 2nm chip will allow Apple to design the architecture of the iPhone 18 Pro to accommodate other parts that might even include bigger camera sensors.

The rising cost challenge

Making the A20 Pro chip on a 2nm process is one thing but TSMC, the vendor making this SoC is going to charge Apple a lot more for the shipped units of the iPhone 18 Pro. And that brings the whole iPhone 18 Pro launch price into the centre.

Most reports say Apple will be forced to increase the launch prices by as much Rs 14,000 for the 18 Pro series, and any hike in the chip cost will unfortunately be passed on to the buyer who picks up the device from the store. Apple CEO Tim Cook has also warned about the ‘unavoidable’ price hike and when you put everything together you get a product that might end up being more premium than usual.
