How to transfer data from an Android phone to an iPhone: a step-by-step guide

Apple’s Move to iOS app can transfer contacts, messages, photos, files, calendars, email accounts and WhatsApp data from an Android phone while a new or erased iPhone is being configured.
Switching from an Android phone to an iPhone does not require contacts, photos or conversations to be moved individually. Apple’s Move to iOS app transfers supported content during the iPhone’s initial setup.

Install the latest compatible version of Move to iOS from Google Play on the Android phone. Turn on Wi-Fi and check that all the content being moved, including files on a microSD card, will fit on the iPhone.
Update Chrome if its bookmarks need to be transferred. A direct USB-C connection can also be used with compatible phones and cables, potentially completing the transfer faster.
Move to iOS must normally be used while setting up a new or erased iPhone. If setup has already been completed, the iPhone must be erased and configured again, or the content must be transferred manually.
Start the Transfer on the iPhone
Turn on the iPhone and follow the setup instructions. On the Transfer Your Apps and Data screen, select From Android, followed by Transfer With App.
Tap Continue to display a six-digit or 10-digit code. Open Move to iOS on the Android phone, accept the terms, grant the requested permissions and enter the code.
The iPhone will create a temporary private Wi-Fi network for the transfer. A home Wi-Fi router is not required for the phones to communicate.
Choose the Content to Move
Select the available content on the Android phone and begin the transfer. Supported data can include contacts, SMS and message history, camera photos and videos, albums, files, folders, calendars, call history, email accounts, web bookmarks, accessibility settings and WhatsApp messages and media.
Some free apps may be matched when they are available on both Google Play and the App Store. Music, books and PDF files may need to be transferred manually.
Wait Until the iPhone Finishes
Leave both devices nearby and plugged in, even if the Android phone appears to finish first. Do not open another app or answer a call on the Android device during the transfer.
Wait for the loading bar on the iPhone to complete. Tap Done on Android, then continue setting up the iPhone and sign in with an Apple Account.
Check the Transferred Data
Confirm that contacts, photos, calendars, messages and WhatsApp content are present before deleting anything from the Android phone.
Download any missing apps from the App Store and sign in again. Paid Android apps may need to be purchased separately on iPhone. SIM or eSIM activation may also require assistance from the mobile network provider.
