OpenAI allows users to opt out of model training directly from the account settings.
Steps:
Sign in to your ChatGPT account. Click your profile picture. Open Settings. Go to Data controls. Disable Improve the model for everyone.
After turning this off, your future chats won’t be used to improve OpenAI’s AI models. If you’d also like to remove your previous conversations, use the Delete all chats option available in the same menu.
How to stop Google Gemini from collecting data for AI training
Google requires users to update two different settings.
Step 1: Disable Web & App Activity Visit myactivity.google.com. Open Web & App Activity. Turn the feature off.
This prevents Google from saving future activity such as searches and app usage for your account. Existing activity, however, remains stored until you delete it manually.
Step 2: Disable Gemini activity Sign in to Gemini. Open Settings. Select Activity. Set Activity to Off.
You can also delete your earlier Gemini conversations from this page.
How to opt out of AI training in Claude
Anthropic includes a dedicated privacy option that lets users stop their chats from contributing to future AI models.
Here’s how:
Log in to Claude. Click your profile icon. Go to Settings. Open Privacy. Switch off Help improve our AI models.
To remove old chats, open the Chats section, select the conversations and delete them. Anthropic says deleted chats may remain on its servers for up to 30 days before permanent deletion.
How to disable data sharing in Grok
Users accessing Grok through X (formerly Twitter) can also limit how their information is used.
Follow these steps:
Open X. Navigate to Settings and privacy. Select Privacy and safety. Tap Grok & Third-Party Collaborators. Untick the option allowing your public data, prompts and interactions to be used for training.
While you’re there, you can also disable conversation history and personalised Grok recommendations.
Can you stop Meta AI from using your data?
Meta doesn’t currently offer a simple switch that guarantees your Facebook or Instagram content won’t be used for AI development.
The available options are limited. Users can:
Make their profiles private. Limit public posts. Submit Meta’s privacy request form.
These measures may reduce the amount of publicly accessible content, but they do not ensure your data won’t be considered for AI training.
Why deleting chats is also important
Turning off AI training only affects future conversations. It doesn’t automatically erase chats you’ve already had with the chatbot.
If you don’t want old conversations to remain associated with your account, delete your chat history from the respective platform. Keep in mind that some companies may retain deleted conversations for a limited period before permanently removing them.
