According to a report by The Economic Times published on November 1, 2026, Indian banks have recorded improvements ranging from 10% to 50% across different operations after introducing AI-powered systems.

Kotak Mahindra Bank, for instance, said it can now handle 20–30% more corporate servicing requests with the same workforce. The improvement comes from the deployment of AI across its wholesale banking operations under Project ACE.

The system automates the classification and routing of corporate customer requests involving account servicing, payments, transaction disputes and inward remittances. By reducing manual intervention in these processes, the bank has been able to improve efficiency and manage a higher volume of requests without increasing its workforce.

Anu Aggarwal, head of corporate and transaction banking at Kotak Mahindra Bank, said the project had improved resolution tags and created additional capacity, allowing the same number of employees to handle significantly more work.

The bank is also developing predictive tools that can help corporate customers anticipate cash inflows, upcoming payments and surplus liquidity. These systems are expected to move beyond providing information and help businesses make financial decisions using predictive insights.

Axis Bank is also expanding its use of AI through its enterprise-wide AXIOM platform. The lender has reported productivity improvements of more than 10% in selected customer journeys. Its AI-powered bots handled nearly 60% of collection calls during the September quarter.

The bank is using technologies such as document AI, voice AI and generative AI-powered collections to improve customer interactions and streamline internal processes.

AU Small Finance Bank has reported a 50% reduction in operating costs for its AI-led voice operations. This highlights how automation can potentially reduce the expense associated with handling repetitive customer interactions.

HDFC Bank, meanwhile, reported a 30% reduction in service delivery turnaround times during the September quarter through digitisation and straight-through processing. Customer visits handled per frontline employee also increased by nearly 50%.

ICICI Bank has developed an enterprise AI platform covering several functions, including customer onboarding, fraud detection, portfolio monitoring, document processing and customer servicing.

The growing deployment of AI across Indian banks also raises questions about the future of traditional banking roles. Automation could reduce the need for manual intervention in certain back-office, credit and customer-support operations, even as banks continue to require employees with technology, analytical and customer-management skills.

For customers, these changes could translate into faster transactions, quicker resolution of service requests and more personalised banking experiences. However, the extent of these benefits will depend on how effectively banks integrate AI into their existing systems.
