Google widens Gemini Spark rollout, says AI Pro access to come soon

Google has expanded Gemini Spark’s Workspace controls, improved task speed and widened international availability, while indicating that access for lower-priced AI Pro subscribers could be announced soon by the company.
Google is expanding Gemini Spark with additional controls for Workspace apps, faster task processing and wider availability for AI Ultra subscribers. The company has also indicated that an update concerning access for Google AI Pro members will arrive soon.

Gemini Spark is Google’s personal AI agent inside the Gemini app. It is designed to handle complex, multi-step assignments and scheduled workflows on a user’s behalf while requesting input when required.

Gemini Spark can now edit private Google Sheets spreadsheets and Google Slides presentations. It can also read comments added to spreadsheets and presentations, allowing the agent to consider feedback while completing a task.
Google has expanded its controls for shared files as well. Spark can edit shared documents, spreadsheets and presentations, provided the user has the necessary permissions.
The agent can now insert images into Google Docs and Slides. Users can also ask it to edit or refine private and shared documents through Gemini’s Canvas panel.
These capabilities extend Spark beyond retrieving information from Workspace files. The agent can now make changes across several apps while completing a broader workflow, such as preparing a report and updating its accompanying presentation.
Complex Tasks Should Run Faster
Google says Gemini Spark is now more than 50 percent faster, reducing the time required to complete longer assignments. The company has also improved how the agent handles tasks involving information from several sources.
Spark can retrieve and review sources in parallel instead of processing them individually. The change is intended to accelerate research-heavy workflows that require the agent to compare information before producing an output.
Notifications Provide More Context
Updated notifications will provide additional details whenever Gemini Spark requires input from the user. Google is also changing when alerts are delivered to reduce unnecessary interruptions.
Mobile notifications will not be sent if the user is already viewing the relevant task thread in the Gemini web app. Alerts should continue to appear when input is needed and the user is not actively following the task.
Wider Rollout Reaches AI Ultra Subscribers
Gemini Spark is rolling out to Google AI Ultra subscribers wherever Gemini apps are supported, except in the European Economic Area, Nigeria, Switzerland and the UK. The expansion brings Spark to India after its earlier limited release.
Google has not provided a date for availability under its less expensive AI Pro subscription. However, Gemini app head Josh Woodward has told AI Pro members to expect an access update soon.
