Apple and Google are working on the new version of Siri powered by the Gemini AI model and now the former has shared more details about the launch this year. For the first time, one of the partners has spoken about the deal and the possible timeline for the launch of the AI version of Siri which is set to release later this year.

The news was shared at the recent Google Cloud Next 2026 event where the Cloud chief Thomas Kurien announced some of the details and what to expect from its deal with Apple. “We're collaborating with Apple as their preferred cloud provider to develop the next generation of Apple Foundation Models based on Gemini technology. These models will now power future Apple Intelligence features including a more personalised Siri coming later this year.”

This is pretty much what the earlier joint statement has said to the public and Kurien just reiterates the same news at the event as well. The Siri AI launch has been eagerly awaited since 2024 when Apple was supposed to not only showcase but also release it for the iPhone users.

Two years down the line, we’re yet to see that happen and now Google is being entrusted with making Siri 2.0 not only work but also get its AI avatar rolling.

The big Siri relaunch

Siri 2.0 was somewhat expected with one of the iOS 26 versions with some suggesting an April-May release timeline. However, both Google and Apple admitting the Siri launch is coming later this year means the iOS 27 version to be showcased at the WWDC 2026 in June could be our first big sighting of the AI assistant.

Apple using Google’s AI model hardly comes as a surprise, especially with its in-house AI team getting poached by other companies. Apple is also going to benefit from the current setup by continuing to build its own models in the background while serving its consumers with more hardware to run these features.

It is also likely to run the tools through its Private Compute Cloud system which gives users the comfort of using Siri, powered by Google but controlled by Apple where it matters.
