How to use YouTube offline on Android: Step-by-step guide to follow

YouTube has been the go-to destination for watching videos online for two-plus decades. Over 2.7 billion people use this popular online video platform every month, and you also might have used it frequently.

However, if you're going somewhere with a limited internet connection or just trying to save data from your mobile plan, you might want to know how to watch YouTube videos offline on your Android device. The best way to do that is by downloading YouTube videos, and the best way to do that is through a YouTube Premium subscription.

How to use YouTube offline on Android

It goes without saying that, like most video platforming companies, YouTube also doesn't want its users to download videos from the platform, which is why they often make the process difficult or charge for it.

The easiest way to download YouTube videos is through the YouTube Premium service, which sets you back Rs 149 per month. However, these downloaded videos are saved within YouTube and can't be played outside the platform.

If you also have a YouTube Premium subscription, then just follow these steps to start downloading YouTube videos on your Android smartphone or tablet:

  • Search for any video on the YouTube app
  • Look for the three-dot logo next to the video
  • Tap on the download icon and select the quality you want to download the video
  • The app also shows the amount of data that will be used to download the video.

By default, the videos will be available to download from Wi-Fi only. However, if you want to download YouTube videos through mobile data, you can head to Settings and turn off the ‘Download over Wi-Fi only’ toggle.

The downloaded YouTube videos will be available in the Downloads section of the app. The downloaded content will remain as long as your device has an active internet connection at least once every 30 days. You can also tap on the three-dot icon next to the video to find the ‘Delete from downloads’ option to remove these video.
