Google has rejigged its health ecosystem and replaced the Fitbit app with new Google Health platform and also brings a premium feature for users in India. The rebranding of Fitbit was inevitable from the day Google decided to buy the popular fitness brand. Google Health will most likely pick up the traits from Fitbit and add its own Health layer to the platform that will work across devices.

Health is a big part of Google's evolution and looking to compete with Apple demands better products, features and an overall ecosystem that appeals to the consumers. The new features have Gemini built into them for improved AI support for the product.

Google says goodbye to Fitbit, almost

Fitbit does not completely go away for Google and the new Fitbit Air screen-less band gives you a clear picture. Google Health is probably part of the broader plan to mimic Apple’s own Health platform and unify all the services and features under one brand. Adding more features like Google Health Coach allows the company to enter the premium space for users across markets.

Google has also introduced the new Fitbit Air device which is a $100 (Rs 9,400 approx) screen-less fitness device that comes with no add-on subscription like Whoop and other fitness brands in this space. It can track all the useful health metrics like sleep, SpO2, resting heart rate and more.

Fitbit Air launch, price, specs

Health Coach works as a free trial for the Fitbit Air users but it seems Google will eventually ask them to pay for the service, albeit a nominal fee compared to the other platforms in this category. This device is getting a limited launch for now, and markets like India are not part of the lineup in the first phase.
