OpenAI has announced the launch of the OpenAI Deployment Company, a new business unit focused on helping organisations deploy artificial intelligence systems across core operations and workflows. Alongside the announcement, OpenAI also confirmed that it has agreed to acquire AI consulting and engineering firm Tomoro.

According to OpenAI, the new deployment-focused company will work with enterprises to integrate AI into day-to-day business operations using specialised teams called Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs). These engineers will work directly with companies to identify where AI can improve productivity, redesign workflows, and build production-ready AI systems connected to internal business tools and data.

The company said the OpenAI Deployment Company will operate as an extension of OpenAI while functioning as a standalone business unit. The aim is to help organisations build systems around rapidly evolving frontier AI models and deployment technologies.

OpenAI said the acquisition will bring nearly 150 Forward Deployed Engineers and deployment specialists into the new business from the beginning.

The company noted that these engineers have experience working on enterprise AI deployments involving real-time systems, governance, operational reliability, and integration with existing enterprise infrastructure.

OpenAI added that the acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, and is expected to close in the coming months.

Backed by investment and consulting firms

OpenAI said the Deployment Company launches with more than $4 billion in initial investment and support from several investment firms, consultancies, and system integration partners. The partnership is led by TPG, with support from firms including Bain Capital, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs, and SoftBank Corp..

Consulting firms such as McKinsey & Company, Capgemini, and Bain & Company are also part of the initiative.

OpenAI said the Deployment Company will help businesses move from experimenting with AI tools to deploying systems that can support large-scale operational changes across industries.
