Apple has not confirmed anything officially yet, but leaks and analyst reports are already building a fairly clear picture of what the iPhone 18 Pro Max could bring when it arrives later this year. The phone is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Apple’s first foldable iPhone, with rumours pointing to a bigger battery, a new chipset built on a more advanced manufacturing process, and camera hardware changes. Here’s a look at what’s currently expected around the launch timeline, India pricing, and the changes rumoured for this year’s Pro Max model.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s annual iPhone event is likely to take place on September 8 or September 9, 2026, with September 9 seen as the more probable date since it gives international media extra time to travel after the US Labor Day holiday. Retail availability is expected to follow around September 18, 2026, based on Apple’s usual rollout pattern.
Reports also suggest a change in Apple’s launch structure this year. Rather than introducing the full lineup together, the company may reserve the September event only for the Pro models and the foldable iPhone, with the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and a next-generation iPhone Air expected to follow in early 2027.

Expected India price
Pricing is expected to go up this year due to higher manufacturing costs tied to TSMC’s 2nm chip process, larger batteries, camera upgrades, and pricier memory components. Leaks suggest Apple could raise the starting price of the Pro models by around Rs 5,000 in India.

Battery and chipset upgrade
Battery capacity is expected to be one of the bigger changes this year, with reports pointing to a range between 5,391mAh and 5,567mAh, and some leaks suggesting a 5,500mAh cell. The larger battery could also add some thickness and weight, with the Pro Max expected to weigh close to 240 grams. Apple is also tipped to add an upgraded vapour chamber for cooling during gaming and other demanding tasks.
Powering the device is expected to be Apple’s A20 Pro chipset, built on TSMC’s 2nm process, marking Apple’s first smartphone chip on this node. The new chip is expected to bring CPU and GPU gains, along with power efficiency and on-device AI improvements that could support expanded Apple Intelligence features.
Display and camera changes
The display is expected to remain at 6.9 inches, though reports point to a smaller Dynamic Island, achieved by moving some Face ID components under the screen. Some reports suggest under-display Face ID could arrive this year, while others expect a smaller cut-out instead. A more power-efficient LTPO+ OLED panel is also expected.
On the camera side, Apple is expected to retain its triple 48-megapixel rear setup while updating the sensor hardware.
