Motorola Edge 60 Pro Gets Android 17 Beta: Dynamic Island Clone and More

Motorola has quietly become one of the fastest Android manufacturers to push out an Android 17 beta this year, trailing only Google and Samsung, and the Edge 60 Pro is the latest phone to get early access. Users in India, and reportedly Brazil too, who signed up through Motorola’s beta programme are now sharing what’s actually changed in the roughly 5GB update, carrying build number A171VVH.16.
The most visually obvious shift is to Motorola’s notification pill, called Live Updates. On Android 16, it sat left-aligned in the status bar, similar to Samsung’s One UI approach, showing things like music playback or navigation directions. In this beta, Motorola has moved it to sit centred directly over the selfie camera cutout, functioning much like Apple’s Dynamic Island.

It’s not without rough edges yet, though. According to Android Authority’s testing, the animation handling still feels unfinished, apps currently minimise down to the bottom of the screen rather than visually collapsing into the Live Update pill itself, with the pill then appearing separately around the camera cutout instead.

Motorola’s AI assistant has been rebranded to QiraAI as part of this update. It isn’t actually brand new to this beta specifically, QiraAI first appeared on the Moto Edge 70 Max before making its way to the Edge 60 Pro’s Android 17 build, suggesting Motorola is standardising the assistant’s name across its lineup rather than treating it as an Edge 60 Pro exclusive feature.
Reddit user athulrox47, who owns the Indian variant of the Edge 60 Pro, and X user Fanboy_Moto have both documented a fairly long list of changes beyond the headline features:
New icons for Wi-Fi, cellular signal, and battery A redesigned volume panel that leans into Material 3 Expressive styling, similar to Pixel devices Resizable Quick Settings tiles, alongside a “Classic Control Centre” accessible with a second swipe down for the full panel A redesigned Settings menu and improved haptic feedback throughout the system Smart Connect, a new cloud connectivity feature, and an overhauled notification management system HelloUI app drawer refinements, including a 3×3 folder grid replacing the previous 2×2 layout, a dedicated create-folder button, tinted app icons across the board, removed app titles, improved background blur, and the removal of MotoAI from the search bar New gesture changes: a three-finger swipe down now triggers a screenshot (replacing the previous press-and-hold gesture), while a three-finger swipe up activates Split Screen mode
One user also reported the phone running noticeably warmer than usual on the beta build, worth keeping in mind if you’re considering installing it. Interestingly, Motorola’s own official changelog for this update only lists the July 2026 security patch and general stability improvements, despite the scale of visual changes users are actually finding.
The Edge 60 Pro isn’t Motorola’s only device on Android 17 beta right now. The company has already pushed the same beta to the Motorola Signature, Edge 70, Edge 70 Fusion, Moto G57 Power, and the Razr 60 Ultra foldable, making this one of the broader simultaneous beta rollouts Motorola has run in recent memory.
How to try it yourself
If you own an eligible Motorola device and want early access, you’ll need to register through the Motorola Feedback Network by creating an account on the Motorola Community website, adding your device details, and opting into the beta programme. Once registered, you can manually check for the update by heading to Settings, then System, then System Update, and tapping Check for Updates. As with any beta software, it’s worth backing up your data first, since pre-release builds can occasionally run into stability issues.
